With so much variety, the first question is usually not which book to read, but how to find it. Three tools — Book Finder, Compare Books, and Reading Tracker — each answer a different part of that question, and using them together can turn a vague interest into a concrete reading plan.
Book Finder narrows the catalog by category, length, reading time, chapter rhythm, sentence flow, and subject. For example, if you are curious about atomic energy but want a popular introduction, selecting the subject "Nuclear energy -- Popular works" and the General Physics category will bring up a small set of options. One of them, "Our Atomic World: The Story of Atomic Energy — A Closer Reading" (id 281), is a compact 12,953 words with an average sentence length of 19.9 words, which suggests a direct, accessible style.
Using the Finder first lets you filter out the marathon-length bibliographies and the dense mathematical treatises before you ever see them. You can also leave every criterion on "no preference" — that choice does not penalize any book, so the tool simply returns the full catalog sorted by its default order.
Once you have two or three candidates, Compare Books places their word counts, estimated reading times, text sections, sentence flow, and chapter rhythm side by side. This is where the catalog's range becomes tangible. A 30,000-word book with only 2 text sections will feel very different from a 30,000-word book with 20 sections, even though both are "short" by the catalog's length categories.
The comparison tool does not rank one book above another — it simply makes the structural differences visible. For instance, you might see that one book has a high chapter count (meaning frequent breaks) while another has a low one (meaning longer, continuous arguments). That information helps you decide which format matches your reading style.
After you commit to a title, Reading Tracker turns the book's page count into a daily goal. It uses a default of 250 words per page when no fixed page count exists, so the initial estimate is approximate. You can adjust the total pages to match your own edition, and then the tracker calculates remaining time and finish date based on a daily page goal you set.
For a book like "Our Atomic World" (id 281), which is about 57 reading minutes, a 20-page daily goal would finish it in a day or two. But for a longer work, say one of the 300,000-word bibliographies, the same goal spreads the read over weeks. The tracker's value is in making that commitment explicit before you start.
The three tools support a natural workflow: find a promising title, compare it against a couple of alternatives, then set a reading plan.
